Greetings from the team!

With Welcome Week in full swing, there’s no better time to introduce ourselves. Since we all have a love for Liberal Arts in common, we thought we’d share a bit about who we are and where the course has taken us so far. If you have any questions about the blog or our pathways in general, feel free to get in touch via our Instagram @theaurorabristol, or just catch up with us on campus. We’d love to hear from you! The Aurora is more than just an online gathering; we’re keen to forge a judgment-free community of writers, artists and doodlers.

On that note, here’s the team behind the dream… 

• Ella

  Hello, I’m Ella and I am embarking upon my third year as a Liberal Arts student. This year, I am Head of Editorial of the quirky corner of the internet that is Aurora. My pathway is anthropology, although I have branched out to poetry and Victorian literature modules along the way.

  While I originally never saw myself as an anthropologist, I’ve discovered anthropology helps me to see familiar worldly issues from a position of unfamiliarity. I find this perspective handy to apply to any discipline.

  Outside of University, I love to dance, travel and obsess over musical theatre. I’m excited to take this blog through another academic year and watch it continue to flourish with the help of Liberal Arts students new and old. Considering the diversity of disciplines under the umbrella of Liberal arts, I can’t wait to tap into the melting pot of creative minds we all come together to form. I look forward to receiving all sorts of weird and wonderful submissions! 

• Georgina

  Welcome to the Aurora! I’m Georgina and I’m the Head of Illustration for the journal. With my pathway in Theology, I’m all about finding the interesting niches Lib Arts has to offer - I’ve experimented with English modules but always find a love for Philosophy and Religion! I do find with these pathways that the course can feel overwhelmingly academic, which is why I love the Aurora as a space to bring creativity back into writing, and to let you all freely write, draw, or contribute however you feel best! I work with a few creative spaces and journals around Bristol, so hope to bring all these expressions together in the blog. 

• Leah

  Hey everyone, I’m Leah and I’m really excited to be a part of the Aurora this year! My pathway is English literature and so far my favourite units have been Dangerous Books and The Radical Gothic. I love how they all cross over and intertwine, all thanks to liberal arts because the course has allowed me to perceive literature from multiple perspectives and through a range of subject areas.

  I love to dance and am on the committee for Bristol’s Dance Society. Generally, when I’m not drowning in university reading lists you will find me in the studio. Being a part of the Aurora is important to me as it showcases the talent and diversity of the liberal arts community within Bristol!

• Alicia

  Hiya, I’m Alicia and I'm an English pathway student. In the first year, I took a degree-level French class (so difficult but no regrets) and Beginner’s Korean, so it’s safe to say I’m somewhat of a linguist fan!

  In my personal life I’m very proud of being Polish and Jamaican, so truly I can’t imagine the world without it being a mix of cultures and ideas. I’ve had so much fun over first year with pushing subject combinations and ideas that towards the end I knew I wanted to help encourage other Liberal Artists to explore whatever they wanted, and to enjoy the process! 

• Romina

  Hello! My name is Romina Treviño. I am a second year student on an English pathway in the Liberal Arts course. I’ve loved the variety of unit options offered, the Russian History unit I took last year was particularly fascinating and I found many connections with the ideas, specifically the critical theory we learn in the English modules.

  Outside of Uni, I love music, drawing and reading, especially Latin American literature, which is where I’m from. Aurora is a place where I can explore all of my interests and get to see the amazing work my peers do as well.
